The report is out, the beat is in, and the stock just broke out on volume.
SLB beat on earnings and revenue on October 23, then cleared its 20 day high and both its 50 and 200 day averages on its heaviest volume in two weeks. Energy led the tape.
The next report is not expected until late January, so this setup runs on price and sector flow, not on a binary earnings gamble.
The number that matters
Plenty of companies beat. Fewer get rewarded for it in a market this selective. SLB did.
On October 23 SLB reported adjusted earnings of $0.64 a share against a $0.62 estimate, on revenue of $9.45 billion against $9.29 billion expected, up 5.8 percent from a year ago. Middle East and Asia revenue grew 9 percent from the prior quarter, and management said it expects stronger international activity in 2027, pointing to deepwater, Venezuela and its digital business.
The cash story held up too. Free cash flow was $828 million, the company bought back 12.9 million shares for $656 million, and it declared a $0.295 dividend payable January 7. Data center revenue, a small but fast growing line, rose 76 percent to $230 million.
Then the market voted. The stock gained 7.1 percent, from $49.55 to $53.06, on 19.06 million shares, its heaviest volume in eight sessions, while the energy sector ETF rose 2.6 percent.
Four confirmations, one setup

BKR and EQNR reportThe test. Strong peer numbers can carry the move. Weak ones put the breakout on trial.
Why the setup is now
The stock now sits just above a cluster of support, which is what gives this setup a defined line in the sand.
Because the earnings report is already behind it and the next one is not expected until after a December expiration, this is not a bet on a single headline. It is a bet that a confirmed breakout keeps going while money rotates into energy.
What can break this trade
- A beat on both lines followed by a breakout on heavy volume is the kind of confirmation that tends to attract follow through buying.
- Support is stacked directly underneath at $51.26 to $52.47, which gives the trade a clear line in the sand.
- Good peer reports this week could carry the move toward $55 to $57.50, with room up to the $60.46 high.
- Not everyone is convinced. Zacks rates SLB a #4 Sell, adjusted EBITDA margin fell 121 basis points to 21.9 percent, and two core segments each declined 3 percent from a year ago.
- Net debt is roughly $9.25 billion, with a $3.4 billion acquisition on top of it.
- A 7 percent one day gap can fill. Weaker crude would weigh on the entire group regardless of what SLB reported.
